HVIL Researchers Present at the UCAH Spring Forum

Researchers from the Hypervelocity Impact Laboratory (HVIL) attended the University Consortium of Applied Hypersonics (UCAH) Spring Forum held at Texas A&M University on March 30, 2022. Five posters covering key on-going hypersonic-related research were presented by HVIL personnel to representatives and subject matter experts from both government and industry. Snapshots of the researchers at the conference are provided below.

DoD SMART Scholarship Awarded to Matthew Intardonato

200th Hypervelocity Impact Experiment Completed

This week, our hypervelocity researchers at HVIL performed their 200th hypervelocity impact test at the TAMU HVIL utilizing the recently developed multi-projectile impact technique. We celebrate the team’s dedication to cutting edge research and the body of experience we have developed through years of experimentation.

New Simultaneously Launched Distributed Particle Testing Capability

The HVIL team made an important leap forward today with its first successful target impact with a multiple-projectile package. Looking forward, we expect to broadening the scope of our projectiles further by widening the spectrum of projectile sizes and materials available for testing.

Flash X-ray System Installed

Today, HVIL finished installation of the new 450 kV, dual-head flash X-ray system. This new system will greatly improve our ability to perform in-situ hypervelocity impact damage characterization.
